So why is Matthew a PATRIOT?
I believe being a patriot is defined by one phrase, “Love for Neighbor”. What does the mean exactly? Christ said in Matthew 12:29-31 when speaking with the scribes that the greatest of all commandments is this, “you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’… ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Biblically & logically, a love for neighbor is the selfless unconditional love for all created image bearers of God. It places the needs & interests of others before your own. This is the type of love that we exhibit as result of God’s grace. Love for neighbor is what subsequently follows a love for God. We can only unconditionally/selflessly love our neighbor because we love God and we only love God because God first loved us (1 John 4:19). That being said, a love for neighbor is not just for the people who are closest to us. It’s not just for our immediate family, friends, coworkers, or actual neighbors. It extends to all of our fellow countrymen and even extends beyond our borders. Now what does that look like? If we love our neighbor greater than ourselves then we are going to want the best for them. We will exhibit an undying urge to protect them from what is wicked and shepherd them towards what is true and righteous so that they may repent and see the forgiveness of sins bought by the blood of Christ at the cross. A patriot loves his country in this way. A patriot calls his countrymen to forsake what is wicked! A patriot leads his countrymen in truth!
Why does Matthew love his business?
I absolutely love my job because its is an avenue for my calling. At 19 years old I was born-again by the Grace of God. For 19 years I was a child of wrath and hostile enemy of God, but God being rich in mercy and by the great love by which He loves us, took what was dead in sin and made alive in Christ. By Grace I was saved, through faith in Christ. It was, is, and forever will be the greatest gift I have ever received. Thus, as result of such a truth, I am bound to the great commission of Christ. To go myself or to send others to preach the Gospel to all creatures of all nations (Matthew 28:16-20). That being said, my vocation is not my calling! I am not called to be a credit card processor but God has provide me the unique opportunity to work in a family-owned business and has allowed me to use my vocation as an avenue for my calling. That is why I love my job. I get to go from place to place, meet people from all walks of life, from all ethnicities, all religions/worldviews, provide them with quality service full of integrity and humble servitude and ultimately share the gospel w/ them.
